VILLÁNY WHITE HUNGARIAN WINES

Although Villány is best known for its reds and Siklós for its whites, there are some Villány whites. Pince Polgar offers a very wide range of wines, perhaps slightly too broad in scope, evidenced by the combinations of Olaszrizling, Sauvignon Blanc, and somewhat green Chardonnay.

The 100% Olaszrizling, Tramini, Chardonnay Barrique are excellent, and the Hârslevelü and Muskotâly (Muscat) are superb.

SIKLÓSI OLASZRIZLING HUNGARIAN WINE

A delicious dry and characteristic white is made here by Bock. Drinking temperature for this Hungarian wine is 10-12°C (50-53.6°F).

SIKLÓSI HÁRSLEVELÜ HUNGARIAN WINE

Although these grapes often yield semi-sweet Hungarian wines. Bock produces a freshly vinified dry wine with superb bouquet with hints of lime blossom and mild fruity notes in both nose and taste. Drinking temperature for this Hungarian wine is 10-12°C (50-53.6°F).

SIKLÓSI CHARDONNAY HUNGARIAN WINE

This southern Chardonnay is not comparable with the often green wine of northern countries. The Chardonnay of Siklós (from Bock) is fulsome, aromatic and seductive. It is both fresh and rounded and also well balanced. Drinking temperature for this Hungarian wine is 10-12°C (50-53.6°F).

Mecsek Hungary Wine

MECSEK HUNGARIAN WINE

This Hungarian wine region is split into two areas: one surrounding Pécs and the other around Mohács. Both areas are in undulating hills and are blessed with a warm Mediterranean-style climate. The underlying strata here is a mixture of rock, sand, soft slate, and some chalk.

The blue Cirfandli, white Chardonnay and Olaszrizling thrive here best with also some Muskotály (Muscat) Hungarian wines.

CIRFANDLI HUNGARIAN WINE

This variety of grapes was introduced to Hungary from Northern Italy by way o of Austria. The Hungarian wine from these grapes is of very variable quality. In poor years it is barely drinkable but in good vintages a superb Hungarian wine is produced that is full-bodied, fresh, very spicy, and generally with sugar residues. Drinking temperature for this Hungarian wine is 14-16°C (57.2-60.8°F).

CHARDONNAY HUNGARIAN WINE

The local Chardonnay here is of good quality and surprisingly fresh and aromatic for such a southern Hungarian wine with hints of butter, chalk, and citrus fruit. It is rounded and full-bodied. Some of the wines containing sugar residues are not so dry. Drinking temperature for Chardornnay Hungarian wine is 10-12°C (50-53.6°F).
