Each Hungarian wine-maker has an individual style but the power and depth of the red wines is apparent, which is the result of the great care with which the grapes are selected, the volcanic soil, and the very beneficial climate.
VILLÁNYI ROSÉ HUNGARIAN WINE
Some wine-makers produce a light rosé that is fairly unconvincing but Vylyan makes an excellent Cabernet Sauvignon based rosé. The best rosés from here though are those made from Kékfrankos Kékoportó, which may perhaps contain a little Pinot Noir, Zweigelt, or Kadarka. These are very fresh Hungarian wines that are elegant, fruity and full-bodied. The Joszef Bock is particularly recommended. Drinking temperature for this Villanyi Hungarian wine is 10-12°C (50-53.6°F).
VILLÁNYI KÉKOPORTÓ HUNGARIAN WINE
The better Kékoportó wines (Tiffan, Polgar, or Bock) Grape harvest in Villany (Bock). are intensely coloured, fresh, concentrated, fruity, velvet smooth, fruity, mellow, and slightly tannic. There are also excellent cask-aged Kekoporto Barriques (e.g. Vylyan). Drinking temperature for this Hungarian wine is 14-16°C (57.2-60.8°F) or 16-17°C (60.8-62.6°F) for the Barrique Hungarian wine.
VILLANYI KEKFRANKOS HUNGARIAN WINE
This is an authentic full-bodied and rounded fresh red Hungarian wine that is full of tannin. (Tamas Gere, Bock, or Polgar). Drinking temperature for this Hungarian wine is 14-16°C (57.2-60.8°F).
VILLANYI PINOT NOIR HUNGARIAN WINE
The Pinot Noir grape thrives on the volcanic soil. Tamas Gere is a Pinot Noir specialist and he vinifies the wine separately. It is a full-bodied, fiery, and powerful Hungarian wine with delicate acidity and distinctive taste of terroir. Drinking temperature for this Hungarian wine is 14-16°C (57.2-60.8°F).
VILLANYI MERLOT HUNGARIAN WINE
These are good Hungarian wines with definite bouquet of cedarwood, black-currant, and hint of roses. They possess a fulsome and rounded taste and are velvet smooth in structure. These Hungarian wines are superbly made but never either exciting or typically Hungarian. Drinking temperature for this Hungarian wine is 14-16°C (57.2-60.8°F).
VILLANYI CABERNET FRANC HUNGARIAN WINE
This is certainly not a native grape variety and in the rest of Hungary this wine would be inconsequential but here in Villany it develops a character of its own, possibly as a result of the volcanic soil. It is dark in colour while the nose is reminiscent of ripe plum or even prune, and blueberry, while the taste is fulsome, firm, and rich, with the required tannin. Drinking temperature for this Hungarian wine is 16°C (60.8°F).
